KONCAB hosts 'Kalanjali 2011'

Bangalore, Oct 30: Kalanjali 2011, the flagship annual cultural
competitions for all Bangalorean Konkani Catholics was organized by the Konkani
Catholic Association Bangalore (KONCAB) at St German's Golden Jubilee Hall here
on Sunday, Oct 30.Kalanjali is a day-long event which is held every year to
support Konkani talents by bringing all Mangalorean Konkani people and different
Konkani associations from Bangalore together. There are competitions in Solo and
Group Konkani Singing, Solo and Group Fancy Dress, Konkani Comedy Skit and Dance
in various age groups.
The programme began with a prayer at 11.00 am.
KONCAB president Anup Saldanha inaugurated Kalanjali 2011 by lighting the lamp.
He was accompanied by Hon. Secretary Jhonas D'Souza, Cultural Secretary Arun
Fernandes and all the executive members of KONCAB. The competitions started with
Konkani Solo singing for children below 10 years. Twelve Konkani Associations
from across Bangalore actively took part in the various competitions. Neutral
judges were arranged to judge the competitions. The programme was a huge success
with fierce competition in all the categories with the houseful audience
enjoying and applauding every performance. It is notable that more and more
participants are forthcoming every year with innovative ideas in fancy dress,
Konkani comedy skit etc.
KONCAB Hon. Secretary Jhonas D’Souza proposed the vote of thanks. The programme
ended with Prize distribution at 7.00 pm. Presidents of various associations and
ex-presidents of KONCAB were called upon to the stage to distribute prizes to
the winners.
Arun Fernandes, Sladan D'Silva and Wilma Noronha compeered the entire event.
