Valerian Fernandes Elected as Chairman of
Federation of Konkani Catholic Associations (FKCA)

Bangalore, July 3: Valerian Fernandes has been unanimously elected as the
Chairman of the Federation of Konkani Catholic Associations (FKCA) for yet
another term for the period 2011–2012 during its 14th Annual General Meeting
held at Konkan Bhavan, Bangalore. The General Secretary, Philomena Pereira and
Treasurer, Ronald Coutinho were also unanimously elected for the forthcoming
term.

The minutes of the last AGM and the Accounts for the
previous financial year were presented by the General Secretary and Treasurer
respectively and the same were passed by all the members present.
The Returning Officer, Mr Gabriel Vaz took charge and conducted the election.

Mr Austin Roche and Mr Charles Gomes, Past Chairman
spoke on the occasion and lauded the work done by the FKCA till date. Mr Steven
Machado, president of Kuwait Canara Welfare Association, Kuwait was welcomed by
the gathering. Presidents of all member associations spoke for two minutes each
highlighting the activities of their individual association while praising the
excellent work done by the FKCA and extending full support to it.
Valerian Fernandes briefed the members of the efforts taken by the FKCA in
presenting and fighting for the causes of the minority with the present
Government. He also assured that the present committee would continue to work
with the same vigor and intensity.
Philomena Pereira updated the members of the various activities undertaken
during the previous year which included, the free eye camp which lead to
donation of sight rectification spectacles and free eye surgeries; low budget
housing for the poor; annual sports; free placement and matrimonial cells;
updation of its website www.fkca.net, etc.
The FKCA has 27 members associations from Bangalore, Mysore and around the
world. FKCA was one of the associations honored by Her Excellency the President
of India Pratibha Devisingh Patil on 9th December 2010 on the occasion of
Konkani Ekta Divas held by Maand Sobhann.
