Mood ManGLOWrean 2011

Bangalore, June 4:
Well, what can one say... Mood ManGLOWrean had it all... the ambience, the food, the band, the deco, and of course the wonderfully put together cultural extravaganza....the vibrant culture of the people of the Mangalorean community is amply highlighted through their different dance forms, handicrafts, cuisines, festivals as well as the rural sports. Without folk culture, a community loses its identity. Mood ManGLOWrean was a small endeavor on part of the Kanara Catholic Association (KCA), Bangalore to showcase this rich heritage. So for those who couldn’t make it, you sure missed an evening of great fun and culture and tradition.

One walked into the Catholic Club on the 4th of June 2011 and wondered if one had walked into a traditional home in Mangalore. The bright orange marigold flowers hanging down from all the balconies, complimented by the traditional deco of the bygone Mangalore homes, all beautifully planned and put together by Roopa Saldanha. The good old Konkani songs being played in the back ground by the band really set the mood for a complete get together.

The highlight of the evening though was the dance extravaganza put together by the children, youth and the adults of the Kanara Catholic Association (KCA). The kids began and stole the show by dancing a jig to the song “Yo re Pausa yo...”. The kids had the entire guests on their feet cheering for them. The best though was yet to come.. joining the little ones were the senior citizens of the KCA who went on to prove that age didn’t really matter.

This wonderful performance was then followed by the youth and adults of KCA enacting a dance drama of a typical day in the village of Mangalore... it was all so perfect down to the props like the modkio’s, the neune’s, the dois, kolso, sarrone, thodpen, koithi, adhalo, bhaan, etc. most of it sourced from Mangalore. All the participants danced with such joy and enthusiasm that it gave all gathered incentive to get up and shake a leg. All these wonderful dances were put together by the choreographers, Bernadette Pinto and Preeta Pereira.

The icing on the cake was the dance performance by the two choreographers, Bernadette and Preeta, Member in Charge, Preethi Viegas, co-ordinator for the kids dance, Supatra D’Souza and a surprise participant – Bertha Fernandes, the President of the KCA. This really brought the crowd on the feet and set the trend for a wonderful evening.

Tina Andrade, the MC for the evening had everyone racking their brains for answers to her fantastic quiz on Mangalore. The evening was made even more special with the wonderful prizes that were given out revellers on the floor.

A big thank you to the Catholic Club for their support, enthusiasm and efforts.

Participation of over 1200 members and guests is largely attributable to the efforts of Naveen D'Souza who constantly sent out reminders on mail, SMS and through Facebook.

The Mangalorean food on offer, carefully selected by Vitus Pinto, was also much appreciated by all and sundry.

The sponsors also are to be thanked in a big, big way, especially Ronald Colaco and family.

All in all, it was a wonderful evening thanks to the efforts of members led by Bertha, as one could hear comments from guests like “Proud to be a Mangi”, “What a great show”, “It brought back memories of our times in Mangalore”, etc.

Mood ManGLOWrean 2012 is anticipated with bated breath..
